The cultural canvas of Maharashtra is enriched by traditional sports including kusti (wrestling), kabaddi, kho kho and mallakhamb. Highly popular in the rural areas of the state, these sporting activities are an integral part of village fairs and local cultural events. Mallakhamb is a sport which is unique to Maharashtra in which a gymnast performs feats and poses in concert with a vertical wooden pole. The wrestling championships like Hind Kesari and Maharashtra Kesari are also huge crowd pullers.
